Cupping is a technique that uses small glass cups as suction devices to disperse and break up stagnation (scar tissue, adhesions, and knots) by drawing congested blood, toxins, and energy to the surface. In that process, it brings the stagnant blood to the surface of the skin allowing new blood to enter the tissue and begin healing the area.
In addition, it may also treat various lung issues such as bronchitis, COPD, pneumonia or asthma. It can even be used at the onset of the common cold to speed recovery.
At Fort Collins Family Acupuncture we utilize a modern, hand suction set of cups. They are lightweight, thin walled, and sturdy glass cups that offer a comfortable feeling on the skin.
Treatments often leaves circular marks that look like bruises but they are not painful. The marks typically fade in 1-7 days depending on how dark the marks are to begin with. Please let us know if you are going to an event, such as a wedding, at which you do not want cup marks showing
We offer Cupping-Only appointments for those who do not want acupuncture but would still like to try cupping.
